It was all business
this week as the Club gathered for its monthly business meeting at The
Pit. President Leon,
surrounded by his able cadre of Larry and Layne, called the meeting to
order and selected Chuckles McLaughlin to lead the Pledge and Dr.
Jerry to once again invoke the Almighty’s blessings.
Bob McSweeney introduced his guest John Tight of Campbell and
Rosemurgy Realty. Jim
Davis also introduced his guest Paul Blackmore visiting from the
United Kingdom.
Don Parrish, co-chair
of the Club’s annual 150 fundraiser, reminded the troops that the
event is some two weeks away and closing fast.
We are still in need of silent auction items to insure that we
have a bountiful selection on which our members and guests can bid.
Don and Leon are putting together a brochure highlighting each
item so they need to know as soon as possible what you will be
donating for the auction. Please
let them know so the item can be cataloged.
You do not have to wait until you actually have the item as
long as you are reasonably sure that it will be there on December 2nd.
Thanks to all of the
members and guests who participated in last weekend’s build for
Habitat for Humanity. Habitat
was building four houses in nine days so there was plenty of work to
go around. Those who
participated got a good night’s sleep last Saturday after a day of
driving nailing into cement blocks.
This Saturday is the
Dynamo outing to the Miami Seaquarium.
The air conditioned bus will be departing from the Pompano
Beach Recreation Center across the street from the Pompano Beach Post
Office at 8AM Saturday and returning no later than 3PM that afternoon.
There will be no charge for admission to the Seaquarium.
For new members, the Dynamos is a non-profit organization which
provides recreational programs for mentally handicapped individuals.
The participants are currently age 14 to 65.
The Club has traditionally sponsored and attended at least one
outing or road trip per year with them.
You will discover that the time spent with these folks is
extremely rewarding so if you need a dose of “feel good”, join us
Saturday for a trip to Miami with the Dynamos.
It could not be a
business meeting without the reading of the minutes of the month’s
Board of Directors meeting and a review of the monthly financial
statement prepared and submitted by Tad, Treasurer for Life, Williams.
Secretary Larry Crismond did his best but was mostly
unintelligible following in the tradition of all past Club
secretaries. We did learn
from his report that the Board will be scheduling another Great Invite
Nite for early 2004 so be thinking about a neighbor, friend, business
associate, client, patient or relative to invite.
These things only work with a good turnout so be prepared.
Nick Likourgou
started the annual signup sheet for Yuletide on Atlantic scheduled for
Thursday, December 4th. As
in years past, the Club will be in charge of the hot dogs.
If you would like to be a member of the XC hot dog brigade,
sign up and report for duty at 6:30PM on 12/4 behind the Chamber of
Commerce building on Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach.
Do not, repeat, do not eat before reporting for duty.
Happy birthday to
Johnny V (11/21) and happy anniversaries to Jack and Bim Krutek (#20
on 11/24) and Roger and Phyllis Zahn (#36 on 11/25).
Number 20 is a big one Brewmaster – don’t screw it up!
Congrats also to Club members celebrating their membership
anniversaries this month: Larry Nelson (#3), Bob Parks (#1), Willie
Allison (#31), Tom Ahearn (#25), Dave Blankenheim (#20), Colin Durie
(#17), Tim Thomas (#4) and Bill Ashton (#6).
Don Parrish was the
super secret shaking man and the free lunch shake was bestowed upon
Willie Allison presumably as an anniversary gift to a real old member.
Don Johnson, not the star of screen and stage, won the pot.
If we could get
everyone in the world to close their eyes and visualize world peace
for one hour, just imagine how serene it would be until the looting
started.
