Standing
Strong for America
by National
President Gus Parker
As winds of war
swirl in Iraq, thousands of American men and women in our armed forces
have put their lives on the line in service to our country. The
television images direct from the battlefields drive home on a continuing
basis what members of Exchange have always known--freedom is not free.
In an uncertain
world, where we must guard our home shores vigilantly even while our
forces combat the enemy abroad, there are two great certainties.
First, the forces of the United States will prevail. Second,
Exchange Club members are rock solid in our support of our nation and our
service men and women.
We have pledged to
discharge the debt we owe to those of high and low estate who have served
and sacrificed that the heritage of American citizenship might be
ours. Courage, honor, liberty--these are values Americans treasure
and live by. These are also the values of Exchange. In the
short term the treachery of our enemy may steal the day. But this
evil cannot and will not stand.
Exchangites, the
time for debate is past! Our forces are now engaged in deadly
battle--they must know they have the full support from the home
front! I am asking every Exchangite to Stand Up and Stand Strong for
America by doing the following:
1. Pray for the
safety of our troops and their families at home. Although we may be
of different beliefs and denominations, we are all united by the power of
prayer. If your house of worship has a prayer list, use it.
2. Fly Old
Glory! Our flag is a symbol of respect and love of country.
Let's fly our flags and encourage our neighbors and businesses to do
likewise. A special flag display in your community is also a great
idea.
3. Get your club
into action! This is a natural time for a GIVEAKIDAFLAGTOWAVE
project, dedication or rededication of a Freedom Shrine or the
presentation of a Proudly We Hail Award. Consider working with
veterans groups and use these events to express support for our
troops. Your club should not feel limited in the type of projects it
conducts.
4. Share your spirit
and let us know what you personally and your club are doing. We'll share
this information through our web site and e-mail list so that other clubs
and members can utilize this information as well.
This is not about
supporting war. War is a terrible, tragic thing that leaves death
and scarred lives in its wake. Sometimes it is necessary. Our
commander-in-chief made a decision that to ensure the continued safety of
Americans, armed conflict would indeed be necessary. Our troops are
now in harm's way and they deserve 100 percent Red, White and Blue support
from Exchange Club members and all Americans.
God Bless America
and God Bless Our Troops,
Augustus M. (Gus)
Parker
National President
